The International Conference on the Future of Primary Health Care will be held at the Congress Centre (Educatorium) of Utrecht University in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Utrecht is an old city, founded by the Romans. It is located in the heart of The Netherlands on the banks of the river Rhine. Its university is more than 350 years old and is the largest in the country with about 25,000 students.
In addition, Utrecht has a nice, medieval city centre with canals, a number of old churches, musea, a modern concert hall and a municipal theatre. Open air markets, pubs and restaurants can easily be found. The city is also a business centre with the largest commercial fair (Jaarbeurs) in The Netherlands.
| Educatorium On Thursday 12 and Friday 13 October the conference will be held at the Educatorium. The Educatorium is a multifunctional educational building that was completed at the end of 1997 in the heart of the university centre De Uithof in Utrecht. The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) designed The Educatorium under the supervision of the famous architect Rem Koolhaas. All plenary sessions will be held at the Theatron room on the first floor of the Educatorium, the parallel sessions programmed on Wednesday 12 October will be held on different locations in the Educatorium and attached buildings. University Hall (Academiegebouw), Domplein 29, UtrechtThe official opening of the conference on Wednesday 11 as well as the conference reception on Thursday 12 October will take place at the University Hall. The University Hall is situated in the centre of Utrecht at the Dom square near the Dom tower. It was a gift to the university from the citizens and the province of Utrecht in 1886, on the occasion of the university's 250th foundation day. All academic ceremonies such as inaugural lectures and graduation ceremonies take place here.
Public transport
The best way to pay for public transport by bus in the Netherlands is to purchase a strippenkaart but tickets can also be bought from the
busdriver. The strippenkaart is a zone-card that should be stamped every time
you get on a bus or tram. For travel within the centre of Utrecht (one zone)
you will need to stamp two strips. From the centre to the university campus De
Uithof (two zones) you will need to stamp three strips. The strippenkaart can
be purchased at train stations, most newsagents and post offices. A card with
15 strips costs approximately € 6,40. For more information about public

By bus
Bus route 2, departing from the central railway
station, calls at the Dom square. Bus routes 3, 5, 9 and 11 call at the
Janskerkhof. It is only a few minutes walk to the Dom square from here (see the
map of the city centre below).
From the conference venue Educatorium to the University Hall take bus 11 which departs in front of the ‘Willem C. van Unnikgebouw’ on ‘De Uithof’ and get of at bus stop Janskerkhof.
By walking
You can walk directly from the central railway
station to the University Hall.
This takes approximately 15 minutes. You can find the best route on our map of
the city centre.
By car
It is difficult to reach the University Hall by car and there
are few parking places in the area. There are no special parking places for
disabled people in the area.
If you decide to come by car, follow the signs Centrum (Centre) or Jaarbeurs
(Exhibition centre). The nearest car parks are on the Springweg, close to the
Mariaplaats or near the central railway station on the Catharijnesingel and the
Rijnkade.
By Bus
Take bus 11, 12 or 12S (direction Uithof/WKZ) and get off at bus stop
‘Langeveldgebouw’ (bus 12, 12S) or ‘Heidelberglaan’ (bus 11) after 15 minutes. Cross
the street (and walk about 100 meters back if you have taken bus 11). At your
right you will see the ‘Willem C. van Unnikgebouw’. Through the main entrance
of the ‘Willem C. van Unnikgebouw’ you walk to the main entrance of the

By Car
There are various routes to the University campus De Uithof, depending
on the direction you drive from. At the moment De Uithof is not easily
accessible by car due to road construction so we advise you to travel by
